Which is best for you? – Blog or Website?
Blog and website both are same in layout structure. Technically Website can be created with HTML only (a language to make basic website). To create a Blog you need CMS (Content Management System), which consist of HTML, PHP and CSS i.e. three different languages. Now days you have several open (free to use) CMS software options like WordPress, Joomla or Drupal you can use to create blog and static website. In CMS Dynamic articles are known as posts and static articles are known as Pages.
Case Study: Let’s have a case study to clear the concept of blog or website, and which suits your needs. Assume you have a website which tells people ‘how to use an internet explorer to surf internet’. Now your website should have static step by step procedures about surfing internet e.g.
- Turn on the computer
- Open internet explorer by clicking desktop icon
- Type URL you wish to surf
- And so on….
Now assume you are a beginner and you don’t know anything about surfing internet. Then this website will be great helpful to you because it’s static (Will not change and whenever you need to see it again, it will be there for you), it’s organized with step by step procedures and it’s properly linked to next step of the tutorials.
Let’s say you have a blog only with the static website, which have articles organized by date. You might have the same tutorial about internet surfing in your blog which was written last year some time. As your articles are organized by date, users have to dig down in your archive to find out the article. And if you user won’t able to find the desired information he required he will not come to your site again and you will lose your valuable user.
Now let’s say you have a static website and a blog built in. So if users have already studied your static website then at this point he might be ready to learn advance features in internet surfing e.g. installing other software to surf, using built in functions, or adding plugins etc. In blog you can publish advance trips and tricks articles to make your user professional in internet surfing. Hence blog is more useful if you want to have your user current up-to-date information about your website topic.
